Focus: RIAA Actions
The RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) issued 261 subpoenas to individuals believed to be uploading over 1,000 copyrighted files on P2P networks such as Kazaa and Morpheus. Additionally, the RIAA is allowing for offenders who have not yet been subpoenaed to sign into an amnesty program which shields participants from litigation as long as they permanently delete offending copyrighted files from their computers. Current fines for having illegal content on your computer range from $750 to $150,000 per song.
