Jayson Blair As reported in The New York Times, the newspaper that he swindled, Jayson Blair has signed a book deal with the Los Angeles publishing firm New Millenium Press. Blair will receive a six-figure advance for Burning Down My Master's House: My Life at The New York Times due out March 9, 2004 with an initial printing of 250,000 copies. USA Today writer Cesar Soriano reports that New York publishing houses stayed away from Blair's book for fear that it could hurt the reputation of their firms as well as their current publications, as many of these depend on glowing reviews from The New York Times in order to make a profit. Further, allegations that content of the book may be false (like the 73 articles he penned for The Times ) has led to worries about legal problems associated with the book. Blair was also commissioned by Esquire Magazine in July to write a movie review on Shattered Glass, the biopic on another infamous cheater, Stephen Glass. The magazine cancelled the assignment in August when the surprise leaked. Blair would have reportedly earned close to $5,000 for the review. Articles on the Blair Episode Blair and The Times
